The firm was founded by Tracy Irwin to help small and medium-sized businesses to grow and flourish. She is passionate about helping business owners realise their ambitions.
We all need someone to be on ‘our side and hold our hand through the rollercoaster of the numbers side of the business – and that’s what we’re here for. One of the greatest joys for Tracy is seeing someone’s business idea take flight and fulfil their dream.
Setting up the financial systems for a growing company
Tracy’s career took off when I was 21, when she joined an electrical contractor as an office manager. As well as taking care of the day to day running of the office she managed the payroll, cashflow, timesheets and the working schedules of a dozen busy electricians. In just a couple years the firm grew to have 150 employees. The company became very successful, and in 2006 it was acquired by a much larger organisation.
A small part-time venture quickly became a winning formula
Around the same time, a friend started an after-school club and asked Tracy to help with her accounts. So to keep everything above board she set up a bookkeeping and payroll firm on a part-time basis. Word quickly grew, and more clients came her way. It became obvious that she needed help, so her mother joined her and kept the wheels turning while Tracy continued her role as a Contracts Manager in the electrical contractors.
In 2007 she took the plunge, and I gave up the full-time job to focus on the bookkeeping and payroll business. With the help and support of her mother she launched TI Accountancy in the Furness and South Lakes business community.
She has never looked back. TI Accountancy now has a fantastic team in the office who are all either AAT Qualified or working towards their AAT Qualification.
A new chapter as an employee-owned business
Things have changed so much since the business was started. It was important to ensure that the firm could adapt and continue to leave a valuable imprint on the business community they serve for years to come.
While Tracy is the founder and face of the business, she wanted the team to feel they also had a stake in its future. When a member of the team has been with us for five years, we invite them to become a director and shareholder in the firm.
With two of the current directors starting in the company as apprentices, they pride themselves on knowing that their policies are modern and forward thinking.
They also fully embrace remote and flexible working arrangements, with Tracy now looking after her part in the business from her home in Spain, and continue to be open to new ideas, new methods of working and new ways of helping their wonderful clients.
