“When Pooja Dhingra tasted her first macaron she immediately knew what she wanted to do with her life…”

Have you ever tried a macaron?

They’re those  round, melt in your mouth, cookie-like, meringue-based sweets, with a crunchy outside and soft middle… that come in all sorts of flavours like vanilla, salted caramel, chocolate and… well you get the picture.

So when we tell you that one lucky lady in India gets to eat, bake and sell them every day for a living, we’d be surprised if you weren’t just a little jealous (of the eating part, obviously.) Meet Pooja Dhingra, from Mumbai: To Read the story CLICK HERE

Ms Dhingra, Mumbai’s ‘macaron queen’, tried her first one when she was in Paris, studying to be a pastry chef in 2008. One bite later and her life had changed. She decided that upon her return to Mumbai, she was going to open up her own macaron store – the first of its kind in India.

Fast forward seven years and she’s now the owner of three busy macaron shops in Mumbai (with another three on the way!)

But it wasn’t always plain sailing for Ms Dhingra…

It took her six months and 60 failed attempts to get the recipe right, she struggled with red tape, and because she was a young business woman in India, she found it difficult to get people to take her seriously. If she needed to sign a lease or buy machinery, her father had to do it for her.

Not only that, but she had to build a business where the product being sold was something no one had even heard of. But by offering free samples and by positive word of mouth, her business slowly made progress.

“Once you are passionate about what you want to do, you will achieve it. The hours will be long and challenges will appear, but if you are passionate enough you will succeed.” Ms Dhingra.

So there you have it, right from this inspiring entrepreneur’s mouth. It doesn’t matter if your passion is for cakes or carpentry, if you have desire and ambition, you can achieve anything.

Have a great week. We hope you enjoyed this tasty treat of a tale!
