A survey carried out for Cigna UK Healthcare Benefits, has shown that more than 75% of employers and 60% of GPs are unaware of the new Fit for Work occupational health scheme. Even higher numbers were unaware of the £500 tax relief available to help pay for employees medical treatment. Fit for Work is a scheme, introduced by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), which will be fully operational across the UK by late 2015. Under the scheme GPs in England, Wales and Scotland can refer employees who have been on sick leave for at least four weeks for a free occupational health assessment to identify any issues that may be preventing an employee’s return to work.
